We wish to welcome you to Our Community Website. We welcome all like-minded people like you to start collaborating with us to ensure clean, decent and healthy environment for mankind. We are a non-governmental organization in Ghana with our Head Office in Accra. We are made up of professionals such as Medical Practitioners, Broadcasters, Marketers, and Out-door publishers. Started in May 2004. We first started our advocacy work on Choice Fm, a Radio Station in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. We since then transmit our program every Saturday morning between 8:00 and 9:00 am on Choice FM's frequency (102.3 MHz) Our target group are the deprive in society in our part of the world.

We are affiliated with the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation and Resouces Center Network Ghana (RCN). It is also part of the stakeholder forum of Kasa, an advocacy platform on Natural Resource and Environment Governance, Media Alliance in Tobacco Control (MATCO), Africa Aurora Business Network and it’s proud to be the Radio Channel for all organizations working in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector.

Our programs are aimed at creating awareness on issues pertinent to Environmental and Health concerns which hitherto would have been ignored.

We are working with disadvantaged people and groups. We try to put small scale entrepreneurs into groups and help them access and make good use of scarce resources around or/and available to them. We believe poverty is not unavailability but inaccessibility and mis-management. So we take people through resource management.

Our organization is duly registered by the Registrar General’s Department and other government Agencies in Ghana.

Our mission is to reform individual lives through advocacy and other hands on programs. It is our hope that our intervention would help achieve a clean and peaceful environment for all Ghanaians, endangered animals and plants on our cherished world.

Our vision is to build a capacity that would empower Ghanaians to be part of policy development and implementation. Capacity that will help us (GCA) influence policies to favour the interest of civil society whether poor or rich.

Our objectives as the name dispicts involves the following:

Help achieve Good Environmental Management and Protection
Assist in Development Management and
Engender Human Rights Advocacy.

The idea was mooted by the Executive Director after his proposal to Choice Fm to host an environmental advocacy talk show on the network was accepted by management of the station.

Our mission is to reform the lives of individuals through advocacy and other "hands on programs". It is our hope that our intervention would help achieve a clean and peaceful environment for all Ghanaians, endangered animals and plants in our cherished world.

We are affiliated to the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation, Swift Ghana, Safissana Ghana, Resources Center Network, Ghana (RCN) and other NGOs working within the Natural Resource Governance Sector. It is also part of the stakeholder's forum of Kasa, an advocacy platform on Natural Resource and Environment Governance put together by Care International, Vision for Alternative Development (VALD), Media Alliance in Tobacco Control (MATCO), Africa Aurora Business Network, Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) and we are proud to be the Radio Channel for most of the organizations working in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector in Ghana. We also are working in collaboration with The Ministries of Local Government and Rural Development, Environment and Health.

We also collaborate with Heads of schools, Traditional Rulers, Queen Mothers Association of Ghana.

GCA is run with contributions from members and part from sponsorship for our various programs. Due to budgetary constraints, we have embarked on a search for funding sources and to enter into partnership with prominent NGOs with bigger capacities. This we believe would help us build the needed capacity and enable us embark on self sustaining/sustainable projects.

When did we start?

Our advocacy work started on a small scale in July 2004. In May 2008 was the commencement of the advocacy work on Choice Fm, a Radio Station in Accra, the capital city of Ghana and this could be heard live every Saturday morning between 8:00 and 9:00 am on 102.3 MHz.

Senior High School Serminar Series

We, in collaboration with FC Beauty and Klinic are embarking on Serminar Series in Senior High Schools in Accra and its envrions. Twenty (20) high schools have been targeted. The Serminar would cover issues on the Environment, Health and Beauty.

We have put together seasoned professionals from our organization, FC Beauty Klinic and many other more would be added from organizations seeking to have their experts to assist in the series.

Our aim is to instill good ethics into the youth.

Ghana Clean Advocacy's Contribution

We, knowing the impact global warming has on our part of the world and the people who live here, are seeking to collaborate with other civil societies/organization in Ghana to advocate on factors that contribute to climate change and the "Dos and Don'ts" that assist to reduce the impact of global warming. We also have resolved that, we shall be given information on global warming on all our advocacy platforms.

It is an undeniable fact that the impact of global warming is being felt in our part of the world and the whole wide world. We believe if we don’t act now, climate change will dramatically impact heavily and negatively on the well-being of people around the world and cause irreversible damage to the environment. Some of the consequences are the looming food shortage, high cost of products and food items, flooding and other threatening climatic consequences.

The Fight for Climate Equity

Global warming is already seriously affecting our planet. Climate change threatens many areas around the world with more intense storms, flooding, droughts, decreased food production, water scarcity, and disease. The world’s poorest people will bear the brunt of the impacts, even though it is the United States and other rich countries that are largely responsible for the greenhouse gas pollution that causes climate change. Responses to climate change must be aggressive and immediate, just and equitable, and must take into consideration the disproportionate role that the United States has played in creating global warming. Friends of the Earth is working through our global network, and here in the United States with partnering groups to make climate equity part of the global warming solution. Resources:

Climate Equity Principles

Increasing temperatures on the Earth’s surface are melting glaciers, ice, and permafrost on vast scales. Ocean temperatures are rising and affecting weather patterns, leading to flooding, sea level rise, heat waves, and droughts, as well increasing the intensity of major storms. For the poor, unpredictable weather and rainfall patterns and rising tides could lead to poor crop yields and devastating floods.

Climate Development Principles

As the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently concluded, climate change is already creating devastating impacts for the world?s poorest and most vulnerable people -- especially those in developing countries -- even though they are the least responsible for causing it. Those impacts will become all the more severe in the coming decades, and will sometimes even reverse the "development process" as a whole. Climate change is already a major driver of impoverishment and conflict around the world, but that fact has not yet been given the urgent attention it demands.

The Climate Development Network

The Climate and Development Network is a forum for international development, faith-based, environmental and other organizations to share information on the impacts of climate change on global poverty. Letters to the U.S. House and Senate on Adaptation Needs in Developing Countries In September, 2007, over 30 international development, faith-based, environmental and other organizations signed letters to the Senate and House calling for the U.S. government to provide funding to assist developing countries adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Letter to President Bush on Climate Change in Developing Countries

In June, 2007, over 30 international development, faith-based, environmental and other organizations signed a letter to President Bush on the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing funding to assist developing countries adapt to the impacts of climate change in advance of the 2007 G8 Summit.

InterAction Panel Series on Climate Change

In September and October, 2007, InterAction and the Climate and Development Network Coalition hosted a panel series on "The Next Global Crisis: How Climate Change is Affecting International Development & Humanitarian Efforts."

Climate and Development Summit

On April 16, 2007, Friends of the Earth, ActionAid International USA, Oxfam America, Center for American Progress, Heinrich Boell Foundation, Oil Change International, Jubilee USA Network and U.S. Climate Action Network organized a Summit on Climate Change and International Development, which highlighted the impacts of climate change on the world's poorest people.

The Power of Alcohol

Alcohol is so powerful it can cause a lot of health problems to an adult. But there is someone who is at a greater risk than an adult, and that person is the unborn child of an expectant mother. Research by Ghana Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (GOFAS) shows that women of child bearing age who take in alcohol during pregnancy pose danger to their unborn child. Permanent birth defects (small upper lip), impaired growth with low birth weight, brain damage (inability to think properly), mental retardation, are consequences the child might face.

Alcohol is dangerous no matter how small the quantity taken.

The fortunate thing is, this problem is 100% preventable and the preventive method is DO NOT TAKE ALCOHOL! If you have been taking alcohol, STOP NOW!

There are three reasons why government can not completely ban alcoholic beverages.
1. Alcoholic beverages have been consumed so much it has become a way of life in our society. It will take massive education to inform the populace on the dangers of the intake of alcohol.

2. So many people are consuming alcohol now that if the government bans it, there will be a political backfire. Unfortunately, no government in power wants to fall out of the electorate’s favour.

3. Economic reason. Government makes a lot of money from taxation on alcoholic beverages which she would not want to loose overnight.

This is a clear example of how dangerous alcohol is. Here are three glasses with raw eggs poured into them and then, an alcoholic beverage was added. The effect is that, the eggs were all cooked. It's a simple test, you can try it.

Our Attitude Plays a Major Role in Sanitation

This is the condition at the 37 lorry station in Accra. Why is the receptacle empty whilst a heap of refuse lay by the side?

The Effects

We have hawkers who sell food (wakyie, rice, koko & kose, bread, etc) in the station and this poses a direct threat to whoever patronizes these foods, as flies go around wallowing in the trash and perching on peoples’ foods.

The air becomes unpleasant to breath and very harmful to the body.

The People, over time, become careless with waste disposal, worsening the condition we are already facing with waste management.

We will have more OPD cases in our various hospitals due to cholera, typhoid, malaria, etc. And in severe cases, there is an out break of a disease like cholera.

Productivity is affected as more people visit the hospital and the government loses revenue on taxes

1. A poor but loving grandmother with her grandchild. 2. An empty bin with a heap of refuse by the side. 3. A typically crowded community in Africa usually created by deprived nationals in the rural areas drifting into the cities in search of jobs.

Many people would argue that though the Environment we live in, the Health status of the people have some relationship with the state of Development of a nation, Environmental Advocates should not pride themselves as agents of development but concern themselves with issues like De-afforestation, Environmental Degradation, Sanitation difficulties and should not always try to link the environment and health to development and by extension to Politics. They are Wrong. How would people decide to reduce advocacy to this level? Have they asked questions on why almost all United Nation's programs and projects on poverty have linkages with environmental projects, and equitable management of the environment? All these issues afore-mentioned are integral part of factors outlined to measure levels of achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, here particular references are made to eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, reducing child mortality, combating major diseases, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
